Part of the picture is removed.
Cropping removes pixels from the frame edges and may then scale the remaining picture back to the output size. It changes the framing and can also change the aspect ratio.
- Fixed border removal, zoom-and-crop or asymmetric reframing.
- Cropping followed by rescaling and re-encoding.
Cropping can remove part of the marked picture and changes its spatial alignment. More aggressive crops leave less visual information available for analysis, while subsequent scaling or compression can add further loss.
